Marshall’s Finds: Anastasia Beverly Hills Products

A big part of our wardrobes, house decor, skin care, and makeup comes from our favorite store ever… Marshall’s. So we thought why not devote a whole entire section of our blog to the amazing things we find there and to also give you tips for when shopping here.

To start it off we are going to show you our latest “score”. We hit the jackpot and scored some stunning Anastasia Beverly Hills products.

Processed with VSCO with c3 presetProcessed with VSCO with c3 presetProcessed with VSCO with c3 presetThe first place I scope out when shopping at Marshall’s is the makeup section. I’ve found some truly amazing things there and I’ve also come up completely dry. They have equal amounts of drugstore quality makeup and high end makeup.

Some of my favorite brands I’ve found there was Kat Von D, Marc Jacobs, Lorac, and Bite. These Anastasia pieces however rank number one.

I walked into the area and found one of the single eyeshadows laying on top of a bath bomb display and knew I had to go on a hunt for more.

When I found some more it was like the heavens opened and angels were singing. There were concealer pots (sadly two shades too dark), cream contour kits, several eyeshadow single pans, lip glosses, liquid lipsticks, and eyeliners. Cue the excitement.

I combed through what was there and settled on a Punchy Red Lipgloss (normally $16 on sale for $6.99!!!!) and the 10k eyeshadow (normally $12 on sale for $3.99!!!).

I then found the most amazing camel colored pair of sunglasses from Banana Republic (normally $75) for only $12!

When I finally got to the checkout I found an even bigger selection of Anastasia goods and that’s when I found the Denim Smokey eyeshadow and my NEW FAVORITE liquid lipstick, Spicy!

1. When shopping at Marshall’s make sure you have your phone and PRICE MATCH ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. Just because it is at Marshall’s doesn’t mean it is that much cheaper than another store (I’ve found some things that were actually cheaper outside of Marshall’s).

2. When shopping makeup or skincare make sure that it wasn’t previously used or tested. The eyeshadows that I got had no finger marks in them and the lipgloss and liquid lipstick had the original sticker seals on the boxes. And always sanitize the top of makeup before using it (easy as wiping the top layer off).

3. Don’t run past what they have available along the shelves in the checkout. That’s where I truly find the best gems. My store always has stunning OPI polishes, unique coffees, the cutest stationery, and where I found a lot more Anastasia Beverly Hills makeup.

Arugula, feta, and black bean pasta salad

A week and a half into the new year and I hit a wall with a “healthier” diet. This weekend my fiancé celebrated his 26th birthday so cake, Buffalo chicken sandwiches, and a few other delicious, fried things were consumed. I didn’t want a few off days to throw me off track (and so quick) so I scrolled Pinterest, Facebook, and my favorite food blogs to find some recipes that would help me out.

I found a few dozen that were immediately pinned and decided to take a few parts of a few and came up with this delish salad (can be served both hot or cold!).

Arugula, Feta, and Black Bean Pasta Salad

  • 1 cup pine nuts
  • one package of black bean pasta
  • 3 cups of arugula
  • one package of plain feta
  • olive oil
  • red wine vinegar
  • oregano
  • salt and pepper
  • habanero pepper flakes (or red pepper flakes)

  1. Roast one cup of pine nuts
  2. Boil black bean pasta for 5-6 minutes
  3. Combine oil, vinegar, and seasonings with feta and refrigerate while cooking the pasta
  4. Place 3 handfuls of arugula into a bowl, drain the pasta and place on top. Cover for 5-10 minutes and stir.
  5. Add the feta to the arugula/pasta mix
  6. Add roasted nuts and mix
  7. Serve either warm or chill and serve cold

The Perfect Embroidered Bell Sleeve Sweater

Zero degree weather sounds like the perfect time to venture out into the snow and take engagement pics right? At least that’s what my fiance and I thought today as we headed to our local park to snap a few pics for our save the dates.

This isn’t the first time we tried to get a few engagement pictures. A few months ago Hope, Ethan, and I tried to take some around the city. As soon as we picked up Hope from work, the skies opened and it rained (more like monsoon-ed) for literally the rest of the day.

A few months passed, the holidays came and went, and it was once again time to try and take some pics. We once again picked a *lovely* day to head out into the elements at the “golden hour” to accomplish this.

With it being so cold and wet outside, I had to pick an outfit that would hold up to the weather. This sweater was the perfect match.

It was warm, the sleeves are the perfect bell shape, and the embroidery added just enough detail with out going overboard.

After the pics, Ethan and I participated in a little Taco Tuesday and had a few apple margs to warm ourselves up!

This sweater was a gift for Christmas, but I found it online here:

Easy Sweet Potato Breakfast Hash (Under 250 cal!)

New year, new diet….

This year ahead is full of some pretty major events for all four of us! Mo is getting MARRIED!!! Noelle graduates from college, Hope is working hard on progressing in her real estate career (and taking her MOH duties super serious), and Sophia will have finished up her Freshman year at Pitt.

Throughout the next few months we also are taking a few trips (New Orleans, Florida, and Nashville all before the summer!).

With these upcoming events, we all agreed that we wanted to get in better shape and live healthier lifestyles. We aren’t going to give up all of our favorites (pizza, burgers, brunch, etc.), but instead we are going to make better food choices more often. And we are going to actually work out instead of just talking about it.

So here goes our first recipe for a better/healthier brunch option! And the best part is that it is under 250 calories!

Easy Sweet Potato Breakfast Hash

(From Better Homes and Gardens “Calorie Smart Meals”)

  • 1 sweet potato
  • 1/2 of a small red onion
  • 4 oz of turkey sausage
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • Salt
  • 1 Tsp. of balsamic vinegar
  • 1 Tsp. of Worcestershire sauce
  • Sriracha (as much or as little as you prefer, we used about 2 tsp.)
  • 2 eggs

  1. Peel and dice sweet potato into 1/2 inch cubes or into thin slices. Once they are diced, place the potatoes into a large skillet and cover them with 1/2 cup of water and about a tsp. of salt. Cover and let simmer for about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Drain potatoes once tender and put to the side.
  3. Cook sausage in the same pot and add the chopped onion. Cook until the onions are caramelized and then add the sweet potatoes back into the skillet. Add a little more water to get the bits off the bottom of the skillet.
  4. Add the three sauces to the hash and let cook for two minutes.
  5. Once hash is cooked together, create two holes in the middle of the mixture and place your two eggs in them. The recipe calls for you to cover the skillet for two minutes until the whites are set and the yolks are still runny. My fiance and I prefer a completely set egg so we leave it covered for about 5-6 minutes.

From start to finish, this recipe takes about 20 minutes. It serves two people and comes out to about 232 calories. A healthy way to start your day.

Easy Pom Pom Hat DIY

Who doesn’t love a super cute pom pom hat in the winter or a super simple DIY (and if you don’t love either, lets just pretend you do for this posts sake). I am guilty of wanting every pom pom, tassel, rhinestone and pearl embellished beanie I come across recently. My pockets however are not as happy with them as I am. Especially when the latest added to my “want list” comes in at over $200… Yes $245 (to be exact) for one hat.

After a few minutes of sadness and FOMO over this hat, I decided to do the next best thing. I’d make it myself.

This DIY will take you under 15 minutes and will make you feel super cute while you are staying warm this winter!

What you’ll need:

  • One plain beanie (your color choice)
  • Two fur pom poms (we bought two fur pom pom key chains and took the chains off)
  • Color coordinating string
  • A sewing needle

  1. Figure out where you want to place your fur pom poms and mark it on your hat.
  2. String your sewing needle and start from the inside of the hat. To make sure that your thread does not come loose, I like to bring my needle back into the inside of the hat and tie a knot with my working string and the ends.
  3. I then bring the needle back to the outside of the hat and I attach the pom pom so that it is firm in place and does not feel too loose.
  4. When it feels secure enough for my liking, I bring my needle back into the inside of the hat and I tie it off with the ends of the string that are inside.
  5. Repeat on the other side and DONE!

I am super happy with the finished product and I can’t wait to make more!

Blogmas Days 4-6: Easy Holiday Party Treat!

Raise your hand if you look forward to the sweets and drinks at holiday parties the most. All of us are guilty of piling our plates with cookies, toffee, barks, and more at our family holiday parties. Add a few fun drinks and we are in a food coma for the rest of the night… And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

So for this Blogmas post we are sharing with you our absolute favorite holiday treat!

Christmas Bark

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Anyone here ever have saltine toffee? Our Gigi has made it so many times over the years, but this is the first time we took a turn at making it and you know what…. IT WAS AMAZING!

Her recipe called for saltines, semi-sweet chocolate, butter, and light brown sugar. We kept the same idea, but switched a few things up. Here is what you need to recreate our Christmas Bark!

  • 1 sleeve of saltine crackers
  • 2 sticks of salted butter
  • A bag of dark chocolate chips
  • 1 packed cup of DARK brown sugar
  • Coarse sea salt
  • 1/2 cup of your favorite nuts

Step 1| Line cookie sheet completely with foil and preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Step 2| Place two stick of butter and your brown sugar into a large sauce pan and stir. Once the sugar is dissolved, bring your mixture to a boil and let it boil for three minutes (do not stir it for this time). While your toffee is boiling, line your cookie sheet with saltine crackers. Leave the crackers whole!

Step 3| After three minutes, pour your toffee over your saltine crackers and spread it to the edges.

Step 4| Place your tray into the oven and bake for four minutes. When the time is up, be EXTREMELY careful taking your tray out of the oven.

Step 5| As soon as you take your tray out of the oven, sprinkle your chocolate chips over the top and let sit for about two minutes. Do not melt your chocolate chips and try to spread it over the top that way. It will leave you with a mess. After the two minutes are up, take a small spatula and spread the chocolate over the toffee.

Step 6| Once your chocolate is spread out, sprinkle your coarse salt over the top and finish it off with your chopped nuts!

Step 7| Let your bark chill in the fridge for an hour and then cut it into squares!

This bark is not only perfect for your holiday parties, but it also is perfect for gifting to your coworkers, your nail girl, your tan artist, and more!

Blogmas Days 1-3: Christmas on a budget at Marshall’s

If you are anything like us, you are always on the hunt for a good deal. Whether it is your favorite makeup brand at a discount or a dupe for this season’s latest fashions, we are always roaming the aisles of our favorite stores looking for the best sales.

This holiday season is no different.

For days 1 – 3 of “Four of a Kind Diaries Blogmas” we are giving you our Christmas on a Budget list from Marshall’s.

We spend more time in Marshall’s than we do at home sometimes so it was so easy to round up a few reasons why Christmas shopping there is painless and headache free, how to spot the best deals, and what to get each person in your life!

White Christmas
On top of having the best gifts, Marshall’s also has the cutest and most unique Christmas decorations (like these frosted tress and glass candle holders).

Before we show you the best gifts we have found at Marshall’s, we want to give you a few tips to follow to make sure you are getting the best deals and good purchases.

  1. You may think that since Marshall’s is a discounted store that everything there is so much cheaper than anywhere else. This is not always the case. Sometimes there are things that are either just a little cheaper or exactly the same price. I always make sure I have my phone on me and I do a quick search on the product. It makes shopping a little longer, but totally worth it.
  2. Marshall’s has a vast array of makeup products ranging from high end to drugstore. Before I put anything in my cart, I make sure that these products were not previously tested. I make sure the lipsticks weren’t swatched, that eye shadow palettes don’t have marks on them, etc. The easiest way to do this is to only buy products that have the protective seals on them.
  3. If there is a brand there that I have never heard of, I always do a little search to see what their prices usually are.

Gifts for the beauty lover|Marshall’s has so much to offer and makeup is definitely one of the things we are constantly getting from there. From skincare to glitter shadows, there is something there for everyone. Here are a few things that we found recently at Marshall’s that make the perfect gifts.

Yesterday we picked up this cleanser from Glamglow and this Lorac eye shadow palette for under $20.

Who doesn’t love getting the gift of flawless skin? These bareMinerals products are aimed at perfecting your complexion and are seriously discounted. The larger sets were 75% off and the serum bronzer was half of the original price. Why pick one when you can get it all and put Santa’s gifts to shame.

If the beauty lover in your life has every piece of makeup imaginable, then look into one of these skincare sets. Lotions, serums, and masks make up some of our favorites from The Body Shop and Philosophy.

After the endless holiday parties they will be attending with a full face of makeup, these products will be a heaven sent. These Glamglow products were over 50%.

Gifts for the shoe lover| Who doesn’t love a good pair of shoes? Whether your shoe lover is obsessed with this seasons cult favorite slide on loafers or they are more into the comfort of a good tennis shoe, Marshall’s has you covered. Here are a few that I found this weekend that would make the perfect gift.

These Marc Fisher boots are the perfect winter white and were under $30, these blush ankle boots were under $20, these glitter black sock boots from Jessica Simpson were under $20 on sale, and these mint and gray Nikes were only $40!

Gifts for the new home owner| Some of my best friends have bought houses this year so I have decided to get them housewarming styled baskets for Christmas. Marshall’s has everything I am going to need to fill up these baskets and make them look and feel luxe.

Warm and cozy basket| For this basket I am going to buy a few candles from my favorite Marshall’s find Maker’s of Wax Goods, a Queen sized blanket from Tommy Hilfiger, and a few bags of seasonal coffees.

New kitchen basket| For this one you could fill the basket with these Kate Spade dishes, a cute serving tray, or if you are feeling extra generous, this KitchenAid mixer that is always on every new homeowner’s list.

The foodie basket| While I usually head to Marshall’s for clothes and shoes, I always find myself roaming the food aisles in the back of my store. There are always seasonings, oils, salts, sauces, and more that I have never seen before. So for the foodie in your life why not fill a basket with some of these unique flavors, like this Sriracha oil. Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Gifts for your favorite fashionista| From this season’s most popular chenille sweaters to camo backpacks and leather wristlets to faux fur vests and suede jackets, Marshall’s has something for every fashionista.

Gifts for the fitness fanatic|While I should be “shredding for the wedding”, I am enjoying every sugar cookie and home cooked meal that I can this holiday season. But your weight lifting bestie does not take a day off and Marshall’s has the perfect gifts that show how much you support their gym addiction (even if you don’t share it). Shaker bottles, water bottles, gym clothes, yoga mats, weights, and more.

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Gifts for your super professional and organized bestie|If your best friend is anything like me then they have dozens of notebooks and planners and they are always buying more. Every year I have at least three different planners and I wouldn’t change it for a thing. This weekend while I was at Marshall’s, I found the cutest notebooks, planners, office supplies, and desk decorations that would make your professional bestie, who is constantly building her empire, grin ear to ear.

What are some things you are picking up from Marshall’s this year for your favorite people? We’d love to see your finds!
