Dollar Store Makeup Brushes: Wet n Wild

Anyone else always looking for fun new makeup/beauty products? I know for a fact I’m not alone. I’m always looking for new stuff no matter where I am. Marshall’s, the mall, Old Navy, the dollar store. You name it and I’ve looked there.

When I visited my local Dollar Tree last week I came across some Wet n Wild brushes and for $1 each I couldn’t pass them up. I looked online and most of them were only a $1 on the site with a couple of them being $2.99. I didn’t care that I wasn’t getting a great deal because I didn’t have to pay shipping and I could have them then and there. Totally worth it in my opinion.

There were a total of six brushes so I picked one of each. I got a contour brush, a smokey eyeliner brush, a large concealer brush, a large eyeshadow brush, an angled liner brush, and a large crease brush.

Here is a quick little review of these brushes after one use (a full video will come to our YouTube soon! @fourofakinddiaries).

Opening up the brushes you notice that they are all so soft, but they aren’t dense. The brushes also don’t have a lot of fraying to them and when I used them I didn’t have any of the brush left on my face. Which is a huge positive because even a few of my more expensive brushes sometimes shed on my face.

The brushes also weren’t streaky when I used them. The concealer brush blended my concealer ok, but I did have to use one of my other brushes to fully blend it into my foundation.

When it comes to the quality of the brushes, these definitely aren’t the highest quality but they do work in a pinch.

Are they worth their dollar price tag? Absolutely. I’ll definitely use these brushes alongside my other favorites.

Marshall’s Finds: Anastasia Beverly Hills Products

A big part of our wardrobes, house decor, skin care, and makeup comes from our favorite store ever… Marshall’s. So we thought why not devote a whole entire section of our blog to the amazing things we find there and to also give you tips for when shopping here.

To start it off we are going to show you our latest “score”. We hit the jackpot and scored some stunning Anastasia Beverly Hills products.

Processed with VSCO with c3 presetProcessed with VSCO with c3 presetProcessed with VSCO with c3 presetThe first place I scope out when shopping at Marshall’s is the makeup section. I’ve found some truly amazing things there and I’ve also come up completely dry. They have equal amounts of drugstore quality makeup and high end makeup.

Some of my favorite brands I’ve found there was Kat Von D, Marc Jacobs, Lorac, and Bite. These Anastasia pieces however rank number one.

I walked into the area and found one of the single eyeshadows laying on top of a bath bomb display and knew I had to go on a hunt for more.

When I found some more it was like the heavens opened and angels were singing. There were concealer pots (sadly two shades too dark), cream contour kits, several eyeshadow single pans, lip glosses, liquid lipsticks, and eyeliners. Cue the excitement.

I combed through what was there and settled on a Punchy Red Lipgloss (normally $16 on sale for $6.99!!!!) and the 10k eyeshadow (normally $12 on sale for $3.99!!!).

I then found the most amazing camel colored pair of sunglasses from Banana Republic (normally $75) for only $12!

When I finally got to the checkout I found an even bigger selection of Anastasia goods and that’s when I found the Denim Smokey eyeshadow and my NEW FAVORITE liquid lipstick, Spicy!

1. When shopping at Marshall’s make sure you have your phone and PRICE MATCH ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. Just because it is at Marshall’s doesn’t mean it is that much cheaper than another store (I’ve found some things that were actually cheaper outside of Marshall’s).

2. When shopping makeup or skincare make sure that it wasn’t previously used or tested. The eyeshadows that I got had no finger marks in them and the lipgloss and liquid lipstick had the original sticker seals on the boxes. And always sanitize the top of makeup before using it (easy as wiping the top layer off).

3. Don’t run past what they have available along the shelves in the checkout. That’s where I truly find the best gems. My store always has stunning OPI polishes, unique coffees, the cutest stationery, and where I found a lot more Anastasia Beverly Hills makeup.

How to Care for Your Henna

Two summers ago I taught myself to do basic henna designs and spent days doodling up and down my arm/hand and on my legs. It was so much fun to learn the different techniques and it was so soothing as well (a sort of meditation-y vibe). As the time progressed, I got busier and found little time to continue. This past weekend I attended the Renaissance Festival in Pittsburgh with my fiance’s family and when I came to the henna booth I knew I couldn’t pass it up.

It was so peaceful getting this done and I am obsessed with the artwork so it should come as no shock that I want to keep it intact for as long as possible. I asked the artist what were her tips for caring for your henna so it lasts as long as possible and this is what she told me:

  1. Clean the area you are applying the henna and make sure that it is completely dry.
  2. Apply the henna design and let it dry for 30 min to an hour.
  3. Once dry apply a sugar and lemon mixture to the hand (this helps the design to stay on the area better).
  4. Once the mixture is set, leave the henna paste on your hand for 3-4 hours (wrapped lightly and left on over night will give you the best results!). When you are ready, take the paste off. Your design will initially look lighter. Allow up to 24 hours for your design to look darkest.
  5. She also suggested that anyone who is a hairdresser, bartends, or works in water all day, should apply coconut oil to the henna if it is placed on your hand or lower arm.

If you follow these few steps, your henna has a better chance of lasting longer and keeping its color more uniformly.

8 Eye Shadow Palletes You Need Right Now!

Hi guys!

If you didn’t know before, we are just a little makeup obsessed over here at Four of a Kind Diaries. While we are usually super busy to sit down and create a bunch of fun looks, we are always scrolling through the home screen of sephora and ulta or checking out the thousands of looks that Instagram has to offer. If you are into makeup as well then you know that this summer quite a few amazing eye shadow palletes graced us with their presence. Below I have listed eight of the dozens that I think deserve the honor of gracing your makeup arsenal.

1| Jaclyn Hill x Morphe

If you are into the makeup community and haven’t heard about this pallete then you must be living under a rock. I don’t say that to be rude but there has been so much hype, controversy, and honest to goodness excitement over it. Jaclyn curated these shades over the last two years to bring her fans her all time favorite shades. And boy did she deliver. The shades are all quite pigmented and go on smoothly. She has already launched this product and has done a relaunch that have both sold out within a few hours. She will be relaunching soon and we will make sure to let you guys know on our Instagram when she does!

Cost: $38 plus shipping

2| Sephora Pro : Editorial Edition

Let me start by saying that my eye looks usually range from super neutral browns to gray smokey looks. I have only added crazy color once or twice, but when I saw this pallete I knew that I needed to step out of my comfort zone. This pallete is perfect for both the seasoned MUA who wants to add to their kit and the amateur who wants to start using color. This offers every bright shade in matte and shimmers and even gives you a decent black and white shade. I am excited to start bringing more color into my looks and this pallete will definitely help.

Cost: $68 but they do offer free shipping

3| Kat Von D Shade and Light Glimmer Eye Contour Pallete

If you are a fan of the Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour kit then you will definitely want to add this to your crew. The Kat Von D crew created an eye contour kit that ranges from cool to warm tones and each shadow builds your look by adding different levels of dimension with each shadow. Definitely a pallete you will want to add if you love the more neutral toned yet still intense eye looks.

Cost: $49 plus shipping

4| Sephora Pro : Warm Eye Shadow Pallete

Much like the editorial sephora pro pallete, this pallete is perfect for both the seasoned MUA and the beginner. This pallete is RIGHT UP MY ALLEY with the warm neutral shades! I saw this and knew I needed to have it. It has a good mix of matte and shimmer shades. The gold tones alone sold me on this pallete. The shadows are also highly pigmented, creamy and super blendable.

Cost: $68 but Sephora does offer free shipping

5| Urban Decay Naked Heat Pallete

I feel like I don’t even need to say much about this pallete because for years Urban Decay has built a cult around the Naked palletes. These shadows definitely do hold up to the hype though. The pallete also comes with a decent shadow brush that not many other brands offer. If you are looking for an every day wear pallete then you will find it here.

Cost: $54 plus shipping

6| Too Faced Glitter Bomb Eye Shadow Collection

When I saw all of my favorite beauty bloggers receive this pallete in their PR boxes I was instantly intrigued. Too Faced launched a pallete of all glitter shades (pinks, purples, gold, gray, and a blue/green) and they switched it up by adding both a brightening base and an intensifying base. In simpler terms a white shadow that you can put down as a base to make the shadows their true pan colors (just a little brighter) and a black shadow that will intensify and darken the shadows on your eye. I wouldn’t suggest this pallete to those who are unsure about colors and shimmer (that’s all you get in this pallete) but I do suggest this to my MUA babes and those who are not afraid to play with color and textures.

Cost: $45 plus shipping

7| Tarte Clay Play Face Shaping Pallete

This pallete is a little different from the other ones because not only does in contain eye shadows but also face powders! Tarte claims that you will be able to contour you eyes, nose, and cheeks with just this one pallete. It contains a total of nine eye shadows and three face powders that are perfect for your whole look. If I can create my whole look with one pallete then we have a winner in my opinion.

Cost: $46 plus shipping

8| Sephora Pro : Cool Eyeshadow pallete

Sephora knew what they were doing when they came out with these palletes. They came out with three different palletes that people are always on the look out for. The totally editorial one, the warm one, and here the cool toned one. I don’t usually reach for my cool toned shadows unless I am getting ready for an event or a night out but with this pallete, I can see myself reaching for the cooler tones a little more. This pallete has a lot more pinkier tones but still has a good mix of mattes and shimmers. Definitely worth the buy for my cool tone lovers.

Cost: $68 plus shipping

Self Tanning Face Mask?!

This post may contain affiliate links.

Yes.. You read that right. A self tanning face mask has finally been brought to us beauty lovers.

While I have not been a self tanning lover for long, in the last few months I have jumped on the bandwagon and have become quickly hooked. With my super busy schedule it is significantly harder to spend three days in a row at the pool to get my bronzed glow like I used to. Instead I am left lathering up my legs and arms with any and every type of self tanner (no complaints here since it is much better than exposing your skin to the sun for long periods of time, but I could do without the oompa loompa stained hands…).

Last week while I was doing my morning routine (pretending I don’t have to get out of bed and instead scrolling through Instagram…), I came across one of my favorite beauty bloggers unboxing some packages. The one product that stuck out to me from the dozens of others was this St. Tropez Bronzing Face Sheet Mask.

Like most products that these beauty gods and goddesses receive, I assumed that I would have to wait to try this out myself. To my pleasant surprise, when I visited Ulta yesterday they were fully stocked!

Below is a little run down on this marvelous little invention and how it worked for me.

The Run Down| So for starters, this is what the face mask looks like when you open it up. It is similar to many other sheet masks, where the mask is attached to an applicator that makes the process ten times easier.

I’m not really sure what I expected, but I surely did not expect the tanner to be clear. I thought it would look like there was tanner on the mask, but the product was completely colorless. The mask also smelled amazing to boot.

Taking a look at the back, it gives you very detailed and simple instructions on how to use this mask (cleanse your face, apply, leave on for desired time, make sure you rub the product in, wash your hands, the works). It also tells you how long you should leave it on for your desired shade. Leave it on for 5 minutes and you get a nice, light tan. Leave it on for 10 minutes and you get a medium tan. Leave it on for the full 15 minutes (it clearly states you should not leave it on any longer than that) and you will get a dark tan.

Since my face tan faded drastically after Mexico while the rest of my body stayed goden, I decided I was going all the way. 15 minutes it was.

How it worked for me| I studied the directions and started by cleansing my face. I did not do my full night time skin care routine the night before, so my face needed a little more help than a simple little face wash. I opted to use my new Formula 10.0.6 mask that I picked up from Ulta with the tanning mask.

I let the mask sit for the recommended fifteen minutes and the I had the fresh face needed.

Don’t mind the eyebrows and nails that are in dire need for some help.

Ready for the magic!

Like I said before, I was hoping for the darkest tan possible from this so I left it on for the full 15 minutes.

AND here are my results immediately after taking the mask off.

The instant results included: a slight difference in color (nothing drastic at all), a healthy glow, and a face that felt like it went through a luxury facial.

I decided that I was going to give it a whole day to see the full results of this mask and this is what the end results were (a full 24 hours after I first applied the mask).

What do you guys think of this mask? Do you think it is a must for your self tanning needs?

Mo goes to Mexico!

So I 100% thought I’d be able to get this post up yesterday for Mondays with Mo, but hey life happens and instead I went kayaking with my fiance and his dad (pics to come!). I decided to work on it a little bit more last night since there was so much to cover. And alas, here is every detail about my latest trip to… MEXICO! The who, what, when, and where of it and an accompanying vlog below also on our youtube. Be prepared and get your snacks because its a long one.

The who• My fiance’s brother, Tyler, proposed to his gorgeous girlfriend, Jackie, last year on Easter and they told us from the get go that they wanted a destination wedding. They decided Mexico because it is their favorite place to vacation. So last week Ethan, his parents, and his brother Jake loaded up and headed to the airport to meet about 40 of Tyler and Jackie’s closest friends and family (lucky for me these people over the past five years have become the same to me).

The what• A wedding silly!

The when• We left early Sunday morning from Pittsburgh international and stayed all the way up to Wednesday. I know, I know. Only a few days, but when you are an all-inclusive newbie like me, that is all you need. Trust me. I was worn out and overly tan (maybe a little sunburnt…). The rehearsal dinner was Monday night and the wedding on Tuesday. Honestly some of the most fun days in my life.

The where• In Mexico we stayed at a Dreams Resort. Dreams Riviera Maya to be exact. This resort was more than gorgeous! You walked into a huge open lobby with the sea breeze blowing in. We were greeted with warm, aloe towels and a glass of refreshing champagne. Quite the start to vacation. A quick check in led us to our hotel room. Saying hotel room doesn’t do this place justice. The huge open room housed a Jacuzzi tub, a shower that could fit ten, a long double vanity, and a massive king sized bed. Off of the room was a cute balcony perfect for a morning coffee (we decided to skip this because the beach and pool were calling our name bright and early each day). The pool area was massive with three different pools. A shallow pool perfect for the kiddos and for the ping pong tables that they had, a pool equipped with basketball hoops and volleyball nets, and a massive pool with a pool bar extending the one end of the pool. Off of the pool area was a ramp to the beach. Coming off the ramp you are greeted by the coolest bar in the resort, The BARacuda, a cool, shack like bar with swings standing in for traditional bar stools. Swinging with a drink in hand on the beach was one of my favorite parts about the trip. After the bar the beach is filled with just about anything you could need. Personal cabanas that anyone can use, a beach volleyball court, soccer nets, crystal clear water, and hammocks hanging everywhere for you to lounge around. During our trip we ate at just two of the several restaurants available at the resort. The first night we enjoyed a delicious meal at their Hispanic restaurant, El Patio, with stuffed poblano peppers and Don Julio galore. The second night, rehearsal dinner night, we dined at the Seaside Grille, I ate their grouper meal while my fiance Ethan ate a seafood linguine that I have been craving ever since (stay tuned for my attempt at recreating it later this week).

I never thought that I would fall in love with Mexico. I was prepared to have a lot of fun, but I did not prepare for the experience I had. I got to share some incredible moments with equally incredible people. I got to share in a magical day for two people that I love dearly. I got to finally unplug and spend quality time with Ethan, something that I rarely get to do with our busy schedules.

Along with the gorgeous resort, the staff of Dreams was unlike any other. I never needed a single thing, anytime I could think of something I needed they were already right there with it in their hand. The second day we were there, the pool bar server ran up to me and asked if we enjoyed the rest of our night and brought over the drinks we had ordered the day before (HE REMEMBERED EACH OF THEM!). I lost my brand new GoPro the first night, I know I cringe thinking about it too, but when I went up to the front desk they had it safely tucked away for me. True angels!

To wrap it all up, I give Mexico a thumbs up and Dreams two huge thumbs up.

I am already ready to plan our next trip!

I was so excited to try this out on this trip. I got some really cool shots. Can’t wait to use it more.
So many shameless pictures coming your way.
So happy to spend the week with my honey
